Fresno County West Annex Jail Roster Lookup

Fresno County West Annex Jail is a county jail annex serving the downtown Fresno jail system. It is used for people in local sheriff custody, so the correct way to look up inmates at West Annex is the countywide Fresno Sheriff roster. The facility replaced an older annex building and added modern jail space, support areas, and visitor-facing features. It should not be confused with state prison, federal prison, or court record systems.

Fresno County West Annex Jail Overview

Fresno County West Annex Jail is operated by the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner's Office at 2208 Merced Street, Fresno, CA 93721. It is the newest building in the county jail system and serves adults held in sheriff custody. The research identifies it as part of the same downtown jail campus as Main Jail and North Annex Jail, with lookup, visiting, mail, commissary, and phone rules managed through the Fresno County Jail system.

The Sheriff's December 2024 announcement says West Annex opened on Merced Street next to the existing downtown jail complex and replaced the former South Annex Jail. Effective December 14, 2024, South Annex permanently closed and no longer houses incarcerated persons. West Annex added 300 beds, classrooms, exercise yards, medical clinics, enhanced officer-safety features, laundry facilities, video visitation stations, and observation or safety cells. The project broke ground in 2018 and totaled $100 million, including an $80 million state grant.

System context is available from the official Fresno County Sheriff's jail overview page.

The overview helps place West Annex within the larger Fresno jail system, while the roster remains the source for a particular person's current custody status.

Fresno County West Annex Jail Capacity and Population

West Annex has a sourced building-specific capacity figure: the Sheriff's West Annex opening announcement states that the facility added 300 beds. The Sheriff's jail overview gives the current combined open-floor capacity for the Fresno County jail system as 2,427. The live Jail Population Statistics table inspected on May 31, 2026 at 6:40:54 AM showed 2,428 people in the county jail system. The live population figure is system-wide, not West Annex-only.

Because West Annex replaced South Annex, current Fresno County facility pages should not list South Annex as an operating jail. South Annex remains relevant only as history and as a transition point for users who remember the older facility name. Visitors, family members, and records searchers should use West Annex for the newer Merced Street jail building and should verify a person's actual housing assignment in the Sheriff roster.

How to Look Up an Inmate at Fresno County West Annex Jail

West Annex custody is searched through the Fresno Sheriff Inmate Info Center. There is no separate West Annex-only inmate search. The same county system covers Main Jail, North Annex, and West Annex, and individual profiles may show booking number, Jail Identification Number or Person ID, charges, bail, arrest details, housing location, and release information if available.

  1. Open the Fresno Sheriff Inmate Info Center or the current in-custody A-Z list from the Sheriff's jail navigation.
  2. Use the booking number if available, or search by last name and first name.
  3. Read the profile for current custody status and housing location, then confirm with Inmate Info if the record is unclear.
  4. Use VINE from the profile when custody-status notification is needed.

The Sheriff's official inmate search information page explains that public jail information is available through the online search area.

Fresno County West Annex Jail Address and Contact

West Annex questions should be routed through the Fresno County jail information lines unless the issue is a general sheriff record, court case, or public records request. The Sheriff's Incarcerated Person Search contact block lists the same Inmate Info and Watch Commander contacts for the county jail buildings. Before visiting or sending funds, confirm that the person is still housed in sheriff custody and that the booking number is current.

Visiting Someone at Fresno County West Annex Jail

West Annex visiting follows Fresno County Sheriff's visiting rules and the West Annex schedule. The schedule page says separate schedules are effective January 27, 2026 and notes the South Annex closure and West Annex replacement. Visits are 30 minutes, first come first served, with two visitors maximum per incarcerated person. One visitor may be a minor in the immediate-family categories listed by the Sheriff. Adults must bring acceptable picture identification.

Visitors must clear a metal detector and may be searched. Refusing search results in denial for that day. Banned personal items include purses, backpacks, cameras, cell phones, food, beverages, cigarettes, weapons, strollers, and car seats or carriers. The Sheriff's rules also allow denial or termination for inappropriate attire, false identification, appearing under the influence, damage or vandalism, disruption, attempted contraband, failure to control a minor, or violation of jail rules.

The official Fresno County jail visiting rules page gives ID, property, search, denial, and dress-code rules.

Mail, Phone, and Money at Fresno County West Annex Jail

West Annex uses the Fresno County Jail commissary and money system. Deposits can be made through TouchPay kiosks in jail lobbies, online through TouchPay, or by phone at (866) 232-1899. Online and phone deposits require facility number 293721 and the person's booking number. Because West Annex houses county jail detainees within the sheriff system, Fresno jail booking numbers matter. They are not CDCR numbers and not federal BOP register numbers.

Commissary items include snacks, hygiene products, stationery, reading glasses, and over-the-counter medication. Orders are placed weekly and delivered to housing units. A person can spend up to $175 weekly in combined commissary and internet orders unless on disciplinary status. The jail issues basic supplies at intake, and an indigent package is available weekly on request for people without funds. MyCarePack gift packages can be ordered separately and are distributed weekly.

The official Fresno County commissary page explains weekly orders, the spending cap, and MyCarePack.

Booking and Intake at Fresno County West Annex Jail

Booking and intake are handled through the Fresno County jail system, not through a West Annex-only public intake desk. The Sheriff's booking and classification material describes booking phones, bail access, medical and disability screening, and objective classification. Housing can depend on risk factors, medical needs, disability accommodations, and institutional behavior. The West Annex's new design includes medical clinics, classrooms, exercise yards, video visitation stations, and observation or safety cells, which support its role inside the larger jail system.

New booking information can take time to appear online. Once a person appears in the roster, use the booking number for deposits and for clearer phone follow-up. If a person is transferred to state prison or federal prison after sentencing, the custody lookup changes to CDCR CIRIS or the BOP Inmate Locator.

About Fresno County West Annex Jail

West Annex is the key recent change in Fresno County's detention map. The Sheriff's announcement states that the new facility replaced South Annex after South Annex permanently closed to housing on December 14, 2024. The project added capacity and modern operational areas while keeping the jail campus downtown near Main Jail and North Annex. The announcement's details also explain why current Fresno jail pages should not build a separate South Annex page.

The broader jail system remains subject to capacity controls. The Sheriff's jail overview says Fresno has been under a federal consent decree since 1993 controlling how many people may be held, with a mandate that every incarcerated person have a bed. West Annex's 300 beds should be read within that local capacity history, not as a standalone population number.

Note: Confirm West Annex custody, visiting schedule, and booking number with the Sheriff before traveling or sending funds.
